Tulip TreeLiriodendron tulipifera |
A beautiful large deciduous tree characterised by its tulip shaped leaves which initially are green but which turn a rich butter-yellow in autumn. The flowers appearing in June and July are also tulip shaped and yellow-green with orange internal markings. The Tulip tree is suitable for any good deep soil in full sun. It prefers soil that is not too dry and a nearby pond or stream can be beneficial. Good planting situations would be in parkland, large green areas, golf courses and country hotel grounds. It is a native of North America. |
