Blue Cedar

Cedrus atlantica glauca

Blue Cedar leaves

This coniferous evergreen tree is found in the Western Himalayas and the Mediterranean . The needle like foliage is arranged in clusters on short shoots, which develop new whorls each year.

Conical later becoming more open with fissured, silvery grey bark, has vivid glaucous blue foliage. The Blue cedars with its large spreading branches are majestic spreading specimens but need ample space if they are to achieve there true potential.

The Blue Cedar prefers a good deep and not too dry a soil. It normally grows with a single bole from the base. Grows well in warm dry summers. In any garden its cool blue foliage is a fine foil to the green leaves and varied colours of other plants.
